Denim

Denim is a cotton twill woven with indigo-dyed yarn, which is what gives it that familiar blue face. Ours runs through a handful of named cloths each season, among them Burnham, Mullins and Wylie, cut into jackets and trousers rather than just jeans, and finished in shades from a lighter Indigo Rinse through to a deeper Indigo Blue.

Indigo dye is never entirely consistent from one yarn bath to the next, and it keeps changing after you buy it: UV, washing and everyday wear all fade and mark it slightly differently, so no two people end up with quite the same jacket after a year. That variation is the point.

Not everything indigo-dyed here is woven as denim twill. Some of it is indigo-dyed shirting or jersey instead, made the same way but with a different drape. For the wider range of indigo-dyed pieces beyond denim, see our Indigo edit.
